Terratec Construction didn’t start out in residential construction, but that hasn’t stopped it from excelling in a number of projects throughout Massachusetts. “We actually started out doing infrastructure,” President Mounir Matraji says. “Eventually we started expanding into residential homes and now we have a few projects ongoing.”

The company’s experience is literally built from the ground up. It started in 2003 in Marlborough, located in eastern Massachusetts, by offering services such as site excavation, utilities and concrete foundations. It offered these services to a wide variety of industries, including infrastructure, energy, education and health, residential, commercial and industrial edifications, basic sanitation and town planning.

After more than a decade, Maplewood Senior Living has built a team of associates who are passionate about giving senior citizens a unique, comfortable lifestyle. “Having those people around is really the main key to our success,” President and CEO Gregory D. Smith declares.

The Westport, Conn.-based company is bringing that passion to Inspīr | Manhattan, a project it is developing in New York City with Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc. Located in the city’s Upper East Side, the 212,000-square-foot, mid-rise building will stand 23 stories and feature 215 units for assisted living, enhanced care and memory care.

Inspīr will be one of the first ground-up projects of its scale in the city in more than 20 years. “We really said, ‘Let’s put the experience of the resident at the front line of how we develop and design this particular brand,’” Smith recalls. “Putting their needs and wants first are what we should be doing.”

The folks at LG Construction Group enjoy a little intrigue. Navigating a complex structural system in a historic building does not intimidate the firm. A diverse renovation project that requires numerous city permits and the ability to achieve historic a tax credit rating is appealing. Complications and obstacles are not a problem. They are a challenge.

Chicago’s Fulton Market has become a very trendy place in recent years. Along its West Randolph Street corridor are a significant number of trendy restaurants, as well as high-end boutique hotels. Adding to that mix, an increasing number of corporations have built facilities in the West Loop, including Google and now McDonald’s, which broke ground on its new global headquarters in 2016 and is set to move in spring 2018.

As the area expands, there is growing need for retail shops, more office space and of course housing, as more people choose to live close to Chicago’s Loop. With Lake and Aberdeen, Novak Construction hopes to meet demand for all of those segments.

The company is serving as the general contractor for the 12-story, 200,000-square-foot building. Bob Burris has been with Novak since 2006, and is serving as project manager on the building. “With Google and now McDonald’s close by, we’re seeing a lot of opportunity for both office space and residential space,” Burris says. “With this building, there will be significant office space with a separate lobby entrance.”

In the heart of Toronto’s downtown, a new 70-story condominium project is beginning to take shape.

Steps away from the city’s waterfront, the upcoming Ten York condo development will soar up from a very unique triangular-shaped wedge alongside Toronto’s major city artery. 

“It is wedged between a major highway and a triangle of roads … and it’s in the shape of a triangle,” says Vince Mirarchi, senior project manager.

The iconic skyline-altering addition to Toronto’s existing architectural marvels is the brainchild of Tridel, a major real estate developer based in Toronto. The $200 million project features high-end condos that will range in price from $350,000 to $4 million per unit. Though the project won’t be compete until 2018, roughly 97 percent of the condos have already sold, Mirarchi notes.
