The Interstate 35 corridor in Texas is considered one of the busiest stretches of highway in the entire interstate system. And while part of that can be attributed to heavy truck traffic to and from Mexico, it can also be credited to tremendous growth in two major cities along the corridor: Austin and San Antonio.

It is those two markets, along with San Marcos, Texas, that Casey Development chooses to focus on, and it couldn’t have chosen better. San Antonio and Austin remain two of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, and the towns in between such as San Marcos continue to explode as well. The growth has led to outsized demand for all types of construction, including luxury apartment rentals, such as Casey Development’s latest project, Tacara at Steiner Ranch.

Desirable Location

Known as “the land between the lakes,” Steiner Ranch is a master-planned residential community in northwest Austin that sits on 4,600 acres between Lake Travis and Lake Austin. It is noted for picturesque views and miles of hiking and biking trails. It is here where Tacara at Steiner Ranch is being built.

The 246-unit Class A luxury apartment community will offer resort-style living and luxury amenities. Construction started in October 2015 and is set to be complete early August.

Ory Kalenkosky, project manager and director of construction for Baxter Contracting, the construction arm of Casey Development, notes the project will overlook Lake Travis. “Everything we do is with quality and luxury in mind,” Kalenkosky says. “This is reflected in both our amenity package along with our unit finish packages. Our clubhouse showcases 24-hour access to our business center, fitness room, hydro massage studio, and dogwash. We also provide an outdoor kitchen package complete with commercial grade appliances, TVs and BBQ grills.””

Additionally, there will be other luxury amenities such as an automated package system and an 8,500-square-foot country club with a social parlor and billiards room. The country club will encourage residents to gather socially with complimentary weekly socials, culinary exhibitions and sunrise yoga classes, and the pool itself will be a luxury infinity pool. CASEY BOX

And while the apartment community exudes luxury, it also offers a healthy, outdoor approach to living well. “Casey Development owns 60 acres,” Kalenkosky says. “We only built on 17 of those acres.” The remaining 43 acres will remain natural preserves, ensuring the community will remain surrounded by rolling hills and stunning views. “The community is perched on a hill,” Kalenkosky notes. “There is a creek at the bottom of the property flowing with water and surrounded by hiking trails.”

While the community will promote a healthy lifestyle, it will also promote green living. “We have installed car charging ports inside our residents’ garages,” Kalenkosky notes. “We have installed 13 private stations, and one available for public use.” The public port will be available 24 hours a day and is located in front to the amenity center.

Booming Region

As work on Tacara enters its final stages, Casey Development continues to work in one of the most robust regions in the country. The company was founded in 1992 by Darren Casey, an alum of Texas State University in San Marcos. Since the company began it has developed over 4 million square feet of office, retail, industrial and multi-family residential properties throughout the region. “The Austin-San Antonio markets have been very good to us, we have been fortunate to be situated in this area,” Kalenkosky says. “We will continue to focus our efforts in these markets. However, we are always looking to explore opportunities across the state and country. “

San Antonio, where the company is based, continues to be fertile ground for projects. It has become somewhat of a technology mecca for cybersecurity companies, and remains rich in artistic culture and history. The local culture of San Antonio, and specifically the Spurs, is directly reflected in Casey Development’s professional attitude. “We don’t have to be the flashiest, loudest, or sexiest,” Kalenkosky notes. “However, we demand quality, integrity, and success.”

Although the company has grown significantly since its inception, it hasn’t changed its mentality. “We put an emphasis on teamwork” Kalenkosky says. “We share in each other’s success’ and consequently, in each other’s failures. The team mentality has allowed us to continue to grow and push the company forward.”

One way the company has pushed itself forward is with strong communication. This is a skill that Kalenkosky uses tirelessly on projects such as Tacara, especially when adjustments have to be made, as they almost always do. “Everything always looks good on paper,” Kalenkosky notes. “But schedules can change in an instance. Adjustments can’t be made unless you communicate early, and that has been paramount to our success.”
