Team Construction

‘Say what you mean and mean what you say.” That’s just one of the concepts that Team Construction embraced as it set out to build a solid reputation and take a definitive step to create a standard in the roofing industry. If the name Team Construction doesn’t already say it all, the service this company provides does. Established as a predominately woman-owned company in 2006, Team Construction is known to be a contractor’s contractor within the Denver region.

The company began as a prominent roofing contractor for the new construction residential roofing industry. Within the first 30 days of working for major homebuilders in Denver, Team Construction was awarded nine communities, to which it proved to be a valued partner with homebuilders. Timing, quality, reliability, cost-effective contracts and loyalty brought accolades to the Team office. Through commitment and diligence, Team Construction quickly garnered an additional 22 communities over its  first year in business.

“Schedules are key in new construction. Quality and detail cannot be compromised,” says Kippen Lasswell, co-owner, president and operations manager. “We received high praise from superintendents. Our pricing was very reasonable, purchasing managers were very pleased with us. In new construction, things can get very competitive so pricing was a big factor, but more so it was our attention to detail that resulted in additional jobs awarded to Team. It was picking out those little things and correcting them before the new homeowner finds a problem. We are much more proactive in making sure things were done right the first time.”

Homebuilders frequently contacted Team in the construction field and after witnessing the subcontractor’s attention to detail, field superintendents began calling on Team Construction to work on their own personal homes.

Team Construction is owned and operated by co-owners Kippen Lasswell, Rosa Hendricks and Jim Hendricks. The owners boast a combined 60 years of experience in the construction business. “We each have very different and distinct strengths,” Lasswell notes. The office, sales and field operations are unique in knowing specifically what is needed to make each department run effectively and to the high standards of Team Construction.

New Opportunities

The consistent performance of each department on and off the job sites led to renovation and repair projects, working on the homes of those colleagues in the actual business. When it comes to referrals, Lasswell explains, that “it just doesn’t get any better than that.”

Team Construction already had a viable, successful business working in the new construction roofing arena, yet, the company welcomed the opportunity to branch out into a new aspect of the industry. Today, the company focuses on storm damage inspections, restoration and full roofing replacements of all roofing types. Kippen states that “helping a homeowner select the best roofing system for their home is part of the job I enjoy the most.”

This company has experience with many different roofing materials and installation specifications. Attention to city building codes, roof deck protection and curb appeal round out the basics. With the options for luxury shingles or concrete tile, every roof has the potential for a little something special. Team will remove and replace the entire roof and gutters along with any windows that are damaged. In addition, Team offers full-service exterior painting and siding repair or replacement. All services are offered as part of the whole exterior renovation package, making Team Construction a total home contractor.

Requests come in daily to the Team office for both large and small roofing repairs, which in most cases are scheduled and confirmed within 24 hours. Co-owner Jim Hendricks has a keen sense in the ability to locate and correct roof leaks or problem areas. His longstanding career in construction, including framing and roofing, have proven valuable for homeowners trying to find a resolution to roof leaks. He takes the time to explain the problem, expound on how the repair will remedy the issue, and gives an honest opinion about the expectation after the repair.

Denver real estate professionals count on Team for real estate roof inspections, repairs and roof certifications. Continued working relationships with these groups has given way to a new aspect of the industry. Realtors need a competent and reliable roofing company to serve their clients’ best interest when buying or selling a property.

The Owner’s Rep

Although its reputation as a contractor’s contractor still stands, Team Construction has made the switch to working directly with homeowners. Lasswell explains that just like working with general contractors, Team Construction builds a relationship of trust and transparency. From the first phone call into the Team office, a timely response is crucial. Rosa Hendricks, co-owner, vice president and bookkeeper for Team, has 15 years’ experience in the construction industry and is typically the first contact with a homeowner looking for a contractor. Rosa Hendricks realizes the importance of accurate, detailed accounting, assuring customers their accounts are accurate and invoiced in a timely manner. Upon a homeowner’s request for a roofing replacement, inspection and proposal, Jim Hendricks, Team's field supervisor, makes a personal, detailed account of damage seen upon inspection. “Photos tell the story,” Lasswell comments.

Heading up the sales department, Lasswell credits the quality of Team's proposals to the company’s continued growth and success in the Denver market.

“I recognize a homeowner's need for accurate information and accountability when choosing a roofing and restoration contractor, therefore I sit down with each prospective customer to review and explain their insurance scope of work and how it compares to what Team has noted at inspection,” she says. A relationship founded on these principles has become even more crucial as homeowners become more interested in the construction process.

During this process, the homeowner works with one project manager to ensure consistent communication. Lasswell says this is a vital aspect of Team Construction’s success, and the need to build one-on-one relationships with clients is the reason Team Construction likes to stay close to its Denver home base. From its southwest Denver headquarters, Team Construction travels as far north as Greeley, Colo., and south to Colorado Springs, Colo.

“One reason we haven’t ventured out of state, up into the mountain areas or farther south is that our business model has been that we are active owners; we’re very hands-on,” Lasswell explains. “I discuss the entire project with the homeowners myself, and Jim is on the job all day. So if we are spread too thin it would be hard to get to sites every day. We have to be hands-on to make sure things go exactly the way we presented it to the homeowner.”

In the past few years, Team has experienced continued steady growth with the addition of exterior services. “The ability to adapt in a changing industry is a must to ensure a company's success,” Lasswell continues. “Customers were pleased with our roofing knowledge and execution of their roof replacement, opening the door to expand our services to already satisfied customers.”

Team's latest addition is the installation of Radiant Barrier. The product is blown into the attic space to reflect the sun’s heat out of the attic before that heat makes its way to the interior of the home, effectively saving air conditioning costs in the summer months.

With a portfolio of 3,133 completed roofing projects and repairs, this company has a proven record of customer satisfaction and commitment to quality. Among the company’s many customer comments, one in particular stands out to Lasswell. Karen Riddick and Bob Talcott, out-of-area property investors, were looking for reliable contractors in the area and found one in Team Construction.  In a reference letter, the investors praise Lasswell’s “attention to detail, including lien waivers, warranties and permits, and her high quality of workmanship.”

“If you are looking for a roofing contractor that returns telephone calls promptly, that is the perfect liaison with insurance companies, that is punctual and dependable, that provides photos of the completed job, and that excels in customer satisfaction, then Kippen Lasswell and Team Construction is the company for you,” the letter continues.

As certified, preferred roofing contractors with shingle manufacturers such as GAF, Owens Corning and CertainTeed, customers can rely on a knowledgeable, educated and dedicated staff when hiring Team Construction for their roofing and exterior needs.

As they look forward to the coming year, Team Construction continues in its efforts to be Denver's total home contractor.
