Whether it is a retrofit project or new construction, most owners want energy-efficient and “clean” HVAC systems in their buildings.  Comfort Systems USA, one of the largest HVAC contractors in the United States, can provide these systems. Comfort Systems USA, based in Houston, has locations throughout the United States, primarily in the Sun Belt and the Southeast.

Some construction firms might prefer to take on the easy jobs that have minimal complications, but Harris Cos. has found success by focusing on “large and technically complex projects,” President and CEO Greg Hosch says. Based in St. Paul, Minn., the firm is one of the largest mechanical contractors in its industry, with offices in four states and Canada.

After more than 100 years, Turner Construction Company has built up the experience and expertise necessary to excel at healthcare construction, Project Manager Bill Swanson says. “We understand our clients’ needs [when constructing] healthcare facilities,” he says.

The Laguna Honda Hospital Replacement project in San Francisco will give residents and staff an updated facility with state-of-the-art design and a substantially better quality of life. “We are glad to be a part of this remarkable project,” says Ron Wilcox, project manager for Turner Construction. “It will be the most advanced residential care facility in the United States, and the first LEED-certified hospital in the state of California, earning Silver status.”

Leave it to Orleans Parish, which includes New Orleans, to choose the building that includes the kitchen as the first in the Orleans Parish Correctional Complex to construct. But a sound reason to choose the building first is that it also includes much of the infrastructure for the complex.

Although most construction firms that have a bonding capacity of at least $30 million are large companies, Construct Two Group (CTG) is a smaller operation. “Our everyday competition are the top-20 firms in the U.S. because we have a bonding capacity of $30 million,” Chairman Derrick Wallace notes. 

Throughout the Public Works Depart­ment (PWD) of Cattaraugus County, N.Y., employees share the goal of doing jobs right the first time, Deputy Commissioner Anthony Capito says. “[We are] very responsive to getting things accomplished,” he says. For example, when the PWD coped with a flood last August, its staff performed as needed. “Our employees, without question, just did what they had to do to keep our roads open and our departments functioning,” Capito recalls.
