Based in New York City, Tekton Builders says it has succeeded thanks to the efforts of a team of industry veterans who are deeply focused on the goal of completing extraordinary projects to obtain complete client satisfaction. This fervent desire is coupled with extensive industry expertise, allowing this New York-based construction company to tackle many projects in its market.
Tekton Builders takes its name from the Ancient Greek word tekt?n, which was a customary term for an artisan or craftsman, particularly for a carpenter, wood-worker or a builder. The company has created a team of professionals that all contribute to bringing its values to life and playing a part in executing on its strategic vision. The company says it is motivated to take an innovative approach to all of the aspects of the building process, focusing on a combination of the assembly of details and fabrications with a robust base of trust, integrity and respect.
In the last few years, Tekton Builders has been involved in a number of projects in its marketplace. One of these was The Children’s Aid Society and its $45 million school and community center on Southern Boulevard in the Bronx. The project is a six-story building that when complete will become the home of the Children’s Aid College Prep Charter School. Tekton Builders was brought on board to oversee construction, while other partners included FXFOWLE Architects and Jonathan Rose Companies, a real estate policy, development and project management firm.
Among the project’s design features is the use of materials to mask the roar of Southern Boulevard’s elevated train. Also, the floor plan moves away from historically utilized lengthy hallways and lines of classrooms. The building will have a cafeteria, media center and gymnasium, too. Additionally, it will be located nearby to Children’s Aid facilities that offer services such as healthcare, dental care, mental healthcare and services foster care children.
When the school had its groundbreaking in 2015, a number of high-profile individuals attended, including Deputy Mayor Richard Buery, Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Children’s Aid President Phoebe Boyer. The new building was said to consist of 73,300-square-feet of space and was expected to open in 2016.
The organization’s previous location was on Prospect Avenue in the Bronx, where the school served approximately 275 students. The location space will allow the organization to grow its reach, aiming to serve about 420 students in grades pre-k to 5. The location will also allow Children’s Aid to expand community partnerships, as it will provide a bevy of social service programs for the community’s children and families. Ultimately, the space will not only hold classes but also accommodate extracurricular activities and after-school programs.
Another project that Tekton Builders has worked on in recent years is located on 141 East 88th Street in New York City. The client owner on the 70,000-square-foot multifamily project was 181 East 88th Street LLC. Tekton Builders served as general contractor, and other parties involved on the project included ARCT Architecture, mechanical engineer Edwards & Zuck, structural engineer Robert Silman Associates P.C., interior designer Victoria Hagan Interiors, construction manager Sterling Project Development Group LLC, landscape architect H.M. White and lighting designer Melanie Freundlich Lighting Design.
The scope of the project involved addition and expansion as well as renovation and remodeling in historic and modern styles. The project included making renovations to an existing New York City apartment building, which was originally built on New York's Upper East Side in 1928. Some of the existing units ended up being merged into larger apartments featuring modern arrangements and features. Among the new infrastructure elements that were installed were a new heating and air conditioning system and an enhanced electrical system. Additionally, two stories that included duplex penthouse units were added on top of the building’s previously existing roof.
Clearly, Tekton Builders has demonstrated its ability to achieve results on a wide array of projects in New York City, institutional, residential and beyond. There is little reason to doubt the company’s ability to continue to perform exceptionally on more projects in the years ahead.
