Meeting a Need

Jacobs Project Management recently demonstrated its expertise in healthcare construction when it completed a $225 million expansion to the Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, Calif. Work on the six-story, 216,000-square-foot facility broke ground in March 2012 and was completed in April.

The new expansion, which is connected to the existing hospital, includes a two-story maternity center, a rooftop heliport and an expansion to the hospital’s emergency department. Rideout Memorial Hospital is the only Level III trauma center in its region. The tower also includes 104 patient beds, procedure and surgery rooms as well as a floor dedicated to data processing and the hospital’s operating systems.

The project addresses a greater need within the hospital’s community for emergency and acute care. Last year, Rideout Memorial Hospital handled more than 55,000 emergency visits, more than twice as much as the center was designed for, the hospital says.

Rideout Memorial Hospital is also seeing a greater demand for specialty medical services for residents of the five-county region it serves in California and western Nevada.

The main hospital expansion is just one of several projects now underway on Rideout’s campus. An expansion of the Rideout Cancer Center will open this summer.

Serving a Community

The hospital campus also houses The Heart Center at Rideout, which offers a full range of cardiac care from diagnostic and interventional to surgery and rehabilitation. Other buildings on the campus include imaging and laboratory facilities, medical offices, parking and a 24/7 urgent care clinic operated by Peach Tree.

Rideout Health Group, the hospital’s operator, is the largest non-government employer in its region. “Rideout Health Group is an independent, truly non-profit, community-based healthcare organization that creates jobs for nearly 2,000 Californians,” the organization says. “In fulfillment of its mission to provide quality healthcare to everyone, regardless of financial circumstance, Rideout Health Group last year provided more than $25 million in unreimbursed or free medical care to uninsured or underinsured patients.”
