There’s a reason many of the nation’s most innovative and successful companies look to UA Builders Group to meet their office and commercial remodeling and build-out needs. The New York City-based company believes in being equally innovative when it comes to the services it provides.

The company extensively uses building information modeling (BIM) software for a top client, WeWork – the leader in shared coworking space nationally. “WeWork, being a tech- saavy enterprise themselves, are very into our  BIM technology capabilities and strongly believe in BIM’s ability to produce a much faster finished product. It’s important to them because they can open new locations and start filling desks sooner. CEO Albert Gjonbalaj says. “Right now we’re using it on every project with them, and extending it to other clients open to using it.”

UA Builders has completed more than two million square feet in office space exclusively for WeWork within the past two years, and has several projects for the company now in progress. The contractor has completed more than 65 percent of WeWork’s office space nationally. “Our quality and unmatched speed has helped WeWork expand quickly into one of the fastest-growing office co-working companies in the world,” UA Builders says.

Although the majority of the projects UA Builders has completed for WeWork are located in New York City, it has also worked on projects in California, Colorado, Florida, as well as office space in Washington, D.C., for the company. UA Builders box

Founded in 2004, UA Builders is a general contracting and construction management company that specializes in office and multi-unit residential interiors. In addition to WeWork, the company regularly works for national companies including Indeed, Foursquare, Compass, Bank of America, CBRE, Jones Lang LaSalle, RFR, and Swig Equities. The company is one of the largest non-union construction management and general contracting firms in New York City, it says.

“The solid reputation we’ve built over the years has ultimately helped us land loyal clients who really value the services we offer,” Gjonbalaj says. “They come to us with every project they have in our market because of our ability to complete projects on budget and on schedule.”

Building Rapport

UA Builders’ focus on preconstruction and design/build services makes it stand out from many of its industry peers. “We have mastered design/build,” Gjonbalaj says. “We work very closely with our clients from the time they identify a space they’re going to lease, and work with consultants and engineers to accelerate or condense schedules and deliver a quality product sooner than anyone else can.”

The company’s preconstruction services include prequalifying and hiring subcontractors, identifying materials and equipment that require long lead times and pre-purchasing materials.

“After completing the design, we send construction schedules out to our subcontractors, who reach out to our various vendors and help us secure better lead times for materials,” he adds. “The rapport we have with our suppliers and subcontractors is very important to our success.”

UA Builders is also experienced in preparing budgets, reviewing construction documents and developing project schedules. “Each project is designed to fit within our clients’ budgets,” the company says. “We work closely with clients and their architects to establish and follow accurate cost parameters, so our clients are never surprised by additional costs.”

Clients are also provided with bimonthly statements comparing actual construction costs with original projections. This keeps clients informed of a project’s progress and budget status, UA Builders adds.

Construction Expertise

UA Builders’ construction services include building evaluation, project administration and field coordination.

The company also offers in-house mechanical, electrical and plumbing estimating expertise.

In addition, UA Builders’ staff includes specialists in other aspects of construction including low-voltage systems, fire alarms, security and millwork. These specialists are able to answer questions about these systems posed by project managers, project administrators or others, Gjonbalaj says.

UA Builders’ recent projects include a 125,000-square-foot office space build-out for Indeed, the nation’s leading online job search engine. Indeed recently more than doubled its office space when it moved to the Hippodrome, located at 1120 Avenue of the Americas between West 43rd and West 44th Streets. The company’s lease on the new space comprises five of the Tier 1 office building’s 21 stories, UA Builders notes.

Several of the company’s projects have included sustainable and energy-efficient features. UA Builders is increasing its capabilities in this area by seeking LEED accreditation, Gjonbalaj adds.

In addition to its office interior work, UA Builders is also experienced in ground-up construction in the commercial and residential sectors. “Ground-up construction projects require more than just a general building contractor,” the company says. “We are comprised of seasoned commercial building contractors who apply our expertise in facilitating large-scale ground-up buildings with acute attention to details and cost.”
