Shane Patrick Associates specializes in building unique projects that improve their communities. “We’re lucky to be able to work on cool and challenging projects that push us a little bit,” says Derrick Davis, president of the Allentown, Penn.-based company.

Many of the company’s projects involve transforming existing and historic buildings for brand-new uses. “There’s a lot of quality, care and craftsmanship behind older buildings,” he adds. “I appreciate the character and pride that went into them.”

The company’s interest in remaking old spaces comes from Davis’ personal history in construction. Following a stint in the U.S. Marine Corps, he worked as a union glazier. Eventually he became a union carpenter before moving up to positions as a foreman, supervisor, construction superintendent, product manager and project director.

Davis formed Shane Patrick Associates in 2009. The company offers construction management, design/build, general contracting and maintenance services to clients in several sectors including industrial, retail, office, senior assisted living, commercial and high-end residential.

One example of the company’s ability to complete unique projects was its work on the NB Center For American Automotive Heritage in Allentown, completed in 2016. The center, developed and owned by Nicola Bulgari – one of the world's best-known collectors of vintage American cars – includes 12 buildings on a 20-acre site that formerly housed a drive-in theater. Shane Patrick box

Bulgari’s collection of more than 400 cars is stored on the site, and 300 of those cars are on display at any given time. The facility also includes a driving track, a vehicle photography studio and the headquarters of the Historical Vehicle Association.

Shane Patrick Associates’ work on the project earned it several awards. The project was also featured in the recently published book “Heavy Timber Structures – Creating Comfort in Public Spaces” by Anthony F. Zaya and Tim Diener.

Another notable project for the company was its work on the headquarters of Trifecta Technologies in Allentown, completed in 2014. The building includes high-tech office spaces adorned with sleek metal furnishing, reclaimed barn wood, exposed brick and a glass wall. The project won an American Institute of Architects award for architect R+D Architecture, which Davis hired to design the top three floors.

Project Experience

The company takes an active approach to finding work in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Delaware. “We’re a first-generation company; this isn’t something we inherited, it’s something we’re building,” he says. “We’re out there pounding the pavement and beating the drum going after their project. We’re an aggressive, talented group of people who have a passion for making a difference.”

Shane Patrick Associates’ meticulous and creative approach to projects has earned it repeat business. Roughly 85 percent of its projects come from existing clients and client referrals, the company says.

The company’s recently finished projects include the

Durham Springs Culinary Event Center, a full-service restaurant and banquet on the site of the former Cascade Lodge Restaurant. Shane Patrick Associates last year also completed work on North Park Apartments, a 48-unit luxury apartment complex in Bethlehem Township, Penn.

Framing contractor Next Level Construction provided framing services on both of those projects. “Next Level has been an asset to the Shane Patrick team,” Davis says. “They are attentive to detail during any project we throw their way, and they have helped us deliver projects on time with aggressive schedules.”

Next Level Construction is one of several subcontractors the company regularly works with. “We build highly-skilled and talented teams to work coactively on unique projects,” Shane Patrick Associates says. “The relationships we foster with the best subcontractors in the region are critical to our success and greatly increases our quality and value-add as an award-winning, recognized general contractor.”

Shane Patrick Construction in February completed work on Standard Farms LLC in White Haven, Penn. The facility is the first legal medicinal marijuana growing and processing facility on the East Coast, Davis notes.

The company’s ongoing projects include restoring the Americus Hotel, located near Shane Patrick Associates’ headquarters in Allentown. The 13-story building was built in 1927 and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984. Plans for the building include restoring a rooftop banquet room and new hotel and extended-stay rooms.

Other projects include renovating a luxury home in Allentown and a Golden Key rest stop in New Smithsville; renovating the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall Township, Penn.; building a new Johnny’s Bagels restaurant in Bethlehem, Penn.; building a new Above and Beyond Senior Living location in Macongie, Penn.; and a demolition and tenant fit-out project for Access Services, a nonprofit organization in Orwigsburg, Penn.

The company will continue to apply its thoughtful approach to these and all of its future projects. “We’re always thinking about how to build something that means something to the community and its tenants,” Davis says.
