Sirina Fire Protection Corp.

For more than 30 years, Sirina Fire Protection Chairman Anthony Florez partially owned a New York metropolitan area fire sprinkler company not unlike Sirina. However, after a falling out with his business partner in 1990, he was forced to choose between an early retirement and starting over again. Although wise investments over the years had left him financially secure, he hated to end his career on a sour note and knew he’d miss the daily challenges of running a fire protection contracting business.

Florez weighed his options on a two-week cruise sailing from the Bahamas to Florida. By the time he reached America, he was armed with a business plan and the determination to build a fire protection business even larger and more successful than his former company. “I wanted to be the best and possibly the biggest fire protection company in New York City,” Florez recalls.  “I had a vision that we should be a full-service fire protection company.”

In the 20 years that have followed, Florez made that a reality. The Garden City Park, N.Y.-based company is now one of the largest fire protection and suppression contractors in the New York metropolitan area. It also is an approved minority-owned and operated business by the state of New York, Nassau and Suffolk counties, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New York Office of Economic Development, the New York City School Construction Authority and the Dormitory Authority State of New York. Sirina Fire Protection serves tri-state area general contractors, construction managers and owners with quality work on projects ranging from office and residential high-rises to universities, airports, hospitals, power plants and other high-hazard facilities.

Turnkey Services

Sirina Fire Protection is a full-service fire protection and suppression contractor specializing in the design, installation and service of fire protection and suppression, fire alarm and detection systems. To complement its extensive product and service capabilities, the company offers mass notification and evacuation systems for the commercial, institutional and industrial sectors.

Sirina Fire Protection’s evolving service and product scope has earned the company a leading position in the tri-state market.  When it first started, Sirina focused on water-based fire protection systems. It has since expanded into gas and high-expansion foam systems, and built a thriving fire alarm and suppression division, Sirina Protection Systems. “We quickly evolved from a specialty contractor into a full-service fire protection and suppression company,” Florez says.

In addition to its product and service capabilities, Sirina Fire Protection boasts a fleet of emergency service trucks that are on call 24/7 to perform critical repairs anywhere in the New York metropolitan area. “These emergency service capabilities are a testament to our willingness to go above and beyond customer expectations,” Florez says. One of the company’s guiding principles is to “treat customers and employees alike with fairness and honesty,” he adds.

Prime Portfolio

This year, Sirina Fire Protection celebrates its 20th anniversary with a series of high-profile projects, which Florez believes will secure the company’s reputation for quality, innovation and customer service for several decades to come.

Sirina was chosen to provide the fire protection and suppression systems for New York City’s first casino – Resorts World New York City at the 192-acre Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens. The project will feature fine dining restaurants, cafés, buffets, food courts and lounge areas, as well as entertainment and concert venues, festival commons and a massive gaming area equipped with more than 4,500 video slot machines. Sirina is excited to be a part of a project that will increase local employment and give the New York economy a much-needed boost, Florez says.

Another high-profile project with which Sirina Fire Protection is proud to be affiliated is Brookhaven National Laboratory’s National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS) II. Corporate, university and government researchers from around the world will use beams of x-ray, ultraviolet and infrared light contained in this giant electron storage ring for numerous scientific applications. Construction began in March 2009, and the new facility will cost $912 million to design and build. During construction, the project is expected to generate more than 1,000 construction and 300 scientific and engineering jobs.

Sirina also provided the fire protection and suppression systems at the Delta Airlines JFK Airport Terminal No. 4 Expansion project. The $1.2 billion project will create a state-of-the-art extension to Terminal 4. The expansion project will replace the outdated Terminal 3 for the benefit of the 11 million passengers the airline serves yearly at JFK.

Sirina is in the final stages of installing a complete fire protection and suppression system at the newly constructed North Shore Long Island Jewish Katz Women’s Hospital. The Katz Women’s Hospital, a $250 million world-class facility, is located on the Long Island Jewish Medical Center campus. Katz Women’s Hospital at LIJ Medical Center – set to open in 2012 – will be a comprehensive resource for the unique healthcare needs of women in the Tri-State community and beyond.

Sirina is proud to have recently completed the design and installation of fire protection and suppression systems at the newly constructed Yankee Stadium, as well as the American Airlines Terminal at JFK Airport and the JFK Jet Blue maintenance hangar and office facility.

The company also has installed complete fire protection and suppression systems at the Ravenswood, Poletti, Astoria, and Calpine electrical generation stations.

The depth of fire protection and suppression system knowledge, and more than two decades of experience designing, installing, servicing and repairing systems in a variety of complex and challenging environments, has shaped Sirina into a full-service fire protection and suppression company with an edge matched by no other local or national fire protection contractor, Florez maintains.

Sirina’s partners include Victaulic.
