When it opens in 2013, the new Advanced Diagnostic and Surgical Pavilion at Queen of the Valley Medical Center will offer patients state-of-the-art care while meeting California seismic compliance mandates. The $130 million, three-story pavilion, part of the Queen of the Valley Medical Center campus in Napa, Calif., will house laboratory, operating room and intensive care functions.
On Nov. 1, Kaiser Permanente opened the doors to the brand-new Ontario Medical Center in Ontario, Calif., which not only brings additional jobs to the Inland Empire, but also raises the bar on how healthcare is delivered to its membership, according to Dan Gilbert, project director for Kaiser Permanente’s Ontario Medical Center project. The five-story, 386,000-square-foot hospital is based on Kaiser Permanente’s “template” design, which represents the latest generation of healthcare facilities built by the organization. “We developed the template model based on state-of-the-art healthcare concepts and evidence-based design,” Gilbert says.
Even a contractor with more than eight decades of experience in building projects throughout the United States – not to mention a top-10 ranking as an education builder from Engineering News-Record – can learn a thing or two from a complex project for a major university. Although it is the oldest public university in Texas, the reach of Texas A&M University has not spread to every corner of its state. But now, the university is growing with its Texas A&M-Central Texas campus project in Killeen, Texas. At the 2010 groundbreaking, System Board of Regents Chancellor Morris Foster said the campus would benefit many in the region. ”We really have the opportunity with this new university to educate people [who before] really haven’t been able to travel the distances needed,” he said.
