Apex Electric Inc. , which performs engineering, installation and maintenance services, says it is one of the only minority-owned union electrical contractors in Las Vegas Valley. “Most of the project management staff have been working in the Las Vegas area for most of their lives,” the company says.

The company was founded in 2002. “The majority of the projects performed to date have been for the numerous casinos in the valley; however, the customer list is constantly expanding,” Apex says. For example, it performs projects for restaurant and entertainment facilities, retail and office space, airport and transportation facilities, university and school buildings, service and maintenance work, and design/build projects. “The company has quickly grown [and has] the ability to complete projects with a very aggressive completion schedule,” it adds.

CityCenter Project

The company is performing 20 percent of the electrical work for CityCenter in Las Vegas. The mixed-use development, which will open in 2009, is being built on 76 acres along the Las Vegas Strip and includes a 61-story, 4,000-room hotel; two 400-room high-end non-gaming hotels; 2,650 luxury condominiums and hotel/condominiums; and 500,000 square feet of retail, dining and entertainment facilities.

“CityCenter is an unprecedented architectural paradigm for the ideal modern city that has the potential to redefine contemporary urban design throughout the world,” CityCenter says. “The groundbreaking design introduces a dazzling vertical city in the heart of Las Vegas’ sprawling horizontal grid.

“As envisioned, CityCenter represents the most significant privately financed project in the United States.”

This high-profile project is aiming to achieve LEED Silver certification. It will incorporate sustainable features such as low-flow bathroom fixtures, a highly efficient irrigation system and techniques to minimize pollutants in the air conditioning system.

“CityCenter’s dramatic design and exciting amenities utilize natural light and innovative strategies to conserve power, and much of that power that is consumed at CityCenter will be generated on-site,” it adds. “CityCenter’s cogeneration solution will utilize the excess heat generated by the on-site power plant to heat water for use by guests. This reduces demand on the power grid and benefits the entire community.”
