An Industry Veteran
Loerke entered the construction industry in 1970 as a carpenter for a contractor in Portland. He eventually worked his way up to senior vice president before striking out on his own to form LCG in 1998.

Even after 37 years, Loerke still enjoys the construction business. “I love it,” he declares. “It’s fun to bring something out of the ground and turn it into a finished product. It’s rewarding to know your work is part of the fabric and commerce of the city you live in.”

Loerke uses a “hands-on” approach with clients. “I’m very much involved in all of [the] Portland projects here, [and go] to the meetings on a weekly basis,” he explains. “What it really boils down to is making sure that we’re doing the best we can for our clients.”

LCG Pence is also an employee-driven company. “Our employees are the business,” Loerke states, noting that the company strives to establish strong relationships with its staff and help them succeed in their careers.

Its senior managers have been critical in this task, Loerke says. “[They] have done a terrific job,” he states, explaining that the managers have guided its younger employees as they have risen through the ranks and successfully built their own projects.

As much as LCG Pence enjoys building lasting structures, it wants to build a lasting company, and the best way to ensure that is through a focused effort to build the future leadership team. “When the time comes,” Loerke says, “to hand over the reins, the current leadership team will want people that work for LCG Pence to take our place. Our employees are the future of the company, and we’re allowing them to grow into leadership roles.”

Safety First
LCG Pence has placed a strong emphasis on safety, for which it has received national recognition. Over the past five years alone, LCG Pence has received 11 prestigious awards, including recognition from OSHA and the State of Oregon’s Governor’s Office for outstanding jobsite safety performance.

Last year, the company received the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program certification from the Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Division – a distinction that only a small group of contractors in Oregon share.
