Page 3 of 3 The Next Generation As part of the Calgary Construction Association’s (CCA) Youth Employment Program, D.C.M. is helping Calgary-area people ages 16 to 24 get a foothold in the construction industry. “The CCA believes that giving youth an opportunity to work in the construction industry is a solid investment,” CCA says. “The association understands the importance of educating youth about the diverse and rewarding paths that are available within our industry.” This program was created through a partnership with Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry to encourage employers to take on unemployed or under-employed youth for a three-week experience, the association says. “This agreement allows opportunity for youth to access careers in construction while allowing the employer to access the individual for possible employment,” CCA adds. The plans room also has two computer work stations for access to the Construction Opportunities Online Network, which provides those in the construction industry timely, convenient and cost effective access to construction procurement opportunities, regardless of their geographic location, according to CCA. CCA also runs its Gold Seal Certification Program, which is a national certification program for project managers, superintendents and estimators. CCA says the Gold Seal Certificate signifies that an individual has attained a nationally recognized level of experience and competence. “For the individual, the Gold Seal Certificate is a declaration of skill and competence that is recognized by the construction industry across the country,” CCA says. “The certificate will enhance mobility and professional development.” |
