Adamo Demolition Co. is proud of its hometown roots, but still has an eye on growth and expansion. Remaining committed to existing customers, however, is priority No. 1, it says. The Adamo name is well-known in the Detroit area, as well as throughout the demolition industry, and the company continues to foster close ties with its employees and the community. Founded in the early '60s by John Adamo Sr., Adamo Demolition today is run by his sons John Jr. and Richard.
“We're one of the few remaining large-scale demolition companies in the city of Detroit,” President Richard Adamo says. “There is a pride and history associated with our name. People have enthusiasm and passion for the work they do here. We've been around a long time, and this is a cyclical industry. Other guys come and go, but we're still here - surviving.”
While many other companies have left Detroit, Adamo Demolition plans on staying put. In 1996, the company was officially certified as a Detroit-based and headquartered enterprise. “The city of Detroit maintains certain criteria for a company to be Detroit based, and other criteria to be Detroit headquartered,” Adamo explains. “These businesses receive 'credit' on their city of Detroit bids to give them advantages over non-Detroit-based and/or headquartered companies.”
As a commitment to its hometown, the company added a maintenance facility in 2000, and added 14,000 square feet of office space in 2005. Adamo Demolition also works with Detroit-based suppliers and subcontractors whenever possible, it says.
In addition to complete or partial structural demolition services, Adamo Demolition performs excavation and grading, hazardous waste removal, utility installation and re-routing, asbestos abatement, and provides consulting and budgeting services. “We're a customer oriented, multi-service company,” Adamo says. “We specialize in providing customized turnkey project services tailored to the specific needs and objectives of our clients, performing all aspects of industrial, commercial and residential demolition, environmental abatement and response services, site restoration and regulatory compliance. We specialize in heavy multi-story and industrial demolition, as well as manufacturing facility renovation and interior demolition.”
Although it provides a comprehensive range of services marketable in diverse geographic areas, Adamo Demolition concentrates on performing work for clients in the Midwest. Adamo says it primarily works in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. “On occasion, we have ventured a bit to the south or east, performing work in Florida and Maryland,” Adamo explains. “Where we seek or perform work is more a function of our client's needs, rather than geographic constraints. We will travel. We've gone as far as the West Coast, and we've done work in Oklahoma.”
The company's main client base includes automotive and industrial organizations, as well as private developers, institutional entities and governmental units and municipalities. With each client, Adamo says, the company strives to foster a partnership.
“We treat all our clients with equal attention to their project needs and objectives, no matter what their size,” he stresses. “Each client is unique and very important to us, and we are fortunate to have them award us the work, and even more fortunate to have them return to us often for repeat business. We have worked with the same automotive companies and developers for years. Work for municipalities is usually publicly bid, but we are still able to develop long-term relationships with them.”
Owners and department heads appreciate the importance that Adamo Demolition assigns to employee safety and the safety of the clients' interests, Adamo says. “They also appreciate the personalized service and communication that forms the basis for Adamo's hands-on project management and attentiveness to detail - especially when it comes to keeping the client informed as to the progress of the work.”
Continuing Adamo Demolition's diligence in the pursuit of cutting-edge innovations within the demolition industry and other related technologies, the implementation and use of new technology, such as hydraulic tooling and new forms of dust-suppression systems are also part of the near and long-term future goals of Adamo. It emphasizes that these initiatives help the company stay up to code on EPA and OSHA requirements.
“We just do what we have to do to compete in a very competitive industry,” he says. “We're a humble company, a family business, and we consider ourselves to very fortunate be around. We're very fortunate to have a top-notch team. Having the right people [to get the job done is priceless].” |
