Murray Demolition says it has become a leader in Canada’s demolition industry because it takes “a different approach” to its business. A combination of sophisticated technology, a dedication to reducing costs and “unrivaled expertise,” it says, has allowed it to succeed. Additionally, the company notes, it has worked to form a work force that is experienced and service-minded, ensuring a positive experience for customers.

“Murray Demolition has established a solid reputation for providing demolition, abatement, remediation and investment recovery services nationwide,” the company says. “Highly trained employees conform to strict government regulations and competently execute all projects efficiently and professionally. Strong relationships built with suppliers enable Murray to execute projects using the most current technology and equipment. This contributes to successfully completing the work safely, on time and within budget.”

Based in Toronto, Murray says it is the largest demolition contractor in Canada. Shawn Murray founded the company in 2002 when he purchased the Canadian assets of a $2 billion Chicago-based corporation. Prior to this, Murray had 19 years of experience in the de-commissioning industry. Since then, Murray Demolition has gone from having 88 employees to more than 400, and expanded its reach from the Toronto market by opening facilities throughout the country.

The company says it has succeeded by acting like a general contractor in the demolition industry. Murray’s divisions can undertake a multi-service project and perform the entire operation in-house – demolition, engineering and environmental services – under one contract.

This usually reduces the client’s costs, it says, through better use of resources, seamless coordination and shortened project duration.

“[Customers can] discover a different approach to demolition and related services – from our enthusiastic team of professionals to our sophisticated technology to our unrivaled expertise and unique approach to reducing costs,” the company says. “It’s the Murray difference.

“Murray is successful because of our people. Our divisions are staffed with experienced professionals in demolition, abatement, remediation and investment recovery services. Whether clients require one service or many, our team will seamlessly perform projects safely, efficiently and on time.”

‘A Solid Reputation’
Murray Demolition’s arsenal of services has made it an important partner to clients, it says. Regarding its demolition, the company says, it has “a solid reputation” for offering specialized structural and interior demolition services to industrial, government and commercial clients.

“Whether it is a bridge, emission stack, hotel, incinerator, manufacturing plant, mine, office building, refinery, retail mall, sports complex, tower or utility installation that needs to be demolished,” the company says, “Murray’s qualified professionals ensure that the work is completed safely, on time and within budget.”

Using specialized equipment, the Murray team can execute the demolition and removal of waste, equipment, salvage and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials while the facility is completely shutdown, temporarily shutdown or fully operating. Understanding that investment recovery is a critical component of most industrial demolition projects, Murray provides this service, as well.

Examples of the hundreds of reusable items recovered from Murray job sites include plumbing fixtures, safety equipment, shipping equipment, lighting fixtures, switches, transformers, mechanical equipment, metal siding, office furniture, door handles, portable offices, pumps, steel plates and tanks.

“The capital raised from the sale of items on-site can offset the cost of demolition,” the company says. “In some cases the investment recovery sales have actually exceeded the cost of decommissioning the site.”

Established and Innovative
Quantum Murray Abatement is Murray Demolition’s abatement service. Murray says this division is one of the largest industrial, commercial and residential abatement contractors in North America.

Using sophisticated equipment and technologies, the division says its trained professionals competently remove asbestos, mold, lead, vermiculite and retrofit fireproofing from operating and non-operating facilities. The company notes it has successfully completed projects in schools and universities, hospitals, office towers, refineries, manufacturing facilities and sites with contaminated soil.

“Extensive capabilities and practices, paired with stringent safety requirements, bonding and performance-based approaches enable Quantum Murray Abatement to provide exceptional and reliable service, highest quality workmanship and advanced hazard assessment capabilities with minimal disruption,” the company says.

The company it also is known for being a leading provider of environmental remediation services and superior project management.

Communicating Safety
Murray Demolition says it is dedicated to providing safe and secure project sites. The company explains the key to continuously safe operations is communication – daily, weekly and monthly.

Each day the company completes a safe-work permit, it says. Each worker signs it to acknowledge they are aware of the day’s tasks ahead, as well as any hazards and how to deal with them.

Every week, Murray Demolition uses “a time-tested checklist” to complete a site inspection. The company says this checklist helps identify and address potential hazards and deficiencies. All findings are then communicated, documented and reported throughout the company.
